Chhatarpur: Tomat village of Chhatarpur district is known for making earthen pots. The pots here are famous not only in the district, but also even outside states. Whoever drinks the water of these mats once, forgets the water of the fridge.
The artisan of the village Harprasad Prajapati says that the soil here is black, due to which the water in the pot is more cold. Earlier, pots were made from the soil of this village, but now due to the formation of a government school, the soil could not be found from there. Now the artisans have to buy the same soil from another place, due to which the cost has also increased.
How is this special pot?
To maintain the strength and coolness of the mats, some special things are added to it. Grind the dung in the soil finely grinded and filtered with the sieve of the flour. After this, while preparing the matka, the ashes of the condy are also mixed from outside, which increases its strength and coolness.
Artisan Deen Prajapati says that black soil is stronger than red soil. But not only the soil, the hard work of the artisans here also makes the mats special. It takes a lot of hard work to clean the pot and give the right shape, which makes it more durable.
Where is this matka sold?
Matkes of Tomat village reach only in Khajuraho, Lavkushanagar and Hot Bazaar of Maharajpur, but also to Mahoba district of UP. Tourists also buy this special matka while passing through here.
In this way, this tradition of Tomat village has been going on for years and the artisans here are keeping it alive with their hard work.
